Strong starter matcha. The underdog with a bone to pick. Simple, straightforward flavours. Great value and easy to appreciate. Sage is sharp yet smooth. The bitter astringency is light-bodied, and comes as fast as it goes. Fun to experiment with, his outgoing attitude is not shy to dance with your favourite milk.
How it tastes:
A light-bodied matcha with bitter and astringent notes to challenge your matcha latte skills. Being the runt of the litter in our family, he is a champion in the right hands. One, I'm sure you'll find respectable when you've perfected the art of matcha lattes.
He wins hearts and nods of approval because he is set on one thing alone. And that is being the best value matcha for lattes, shakes, smoothies and cooking.
Not fanciful nor the most complex, with a chip on his shoulders. Sage is a reminder that you, too, can make cafe quality matcha drinks right at home.
If hungry dogs run faster, Sage wins the race.
He is a matcha of sharp qualities. The underdog is obsessed with impressing you with simple and easy flavours to appreciate — light, sharp, clean bitter astringent aftertastes. No grassy or fishiness when made in iced lattes. Like the rest of his family, Sage is smooth and blends well with most milks without a doubt.
The colour is of fresh green lettuce, with pleasant whiffs of dried green tea.
I use Sage for strong, refreshing matcha lattes — I'm not afraid, unashamed to enjoy his bitterness. I love the harsh, sharp notes. It's a gentle reminder that most matchas taste good when made right. If you're hunting for affordable matchas in this economy, give Sage a chance to prove himself. He won't let you down.
Best ways to enjoy:
Sage is an expression of what good, simple matcha is. Unlike his family, he can do it all. A true culinary grade, ready to mix in protein shakes, smoothies or fired up for baking.
Sage is practical for students, gym goers and anyone embarking on their health journey. A great matcha to start with when you need a boost of caffeinated energy.
When made with full-fat milk, it taste like green tea lattes from boba shops. Not grassy, more a blend of green & black tea latte. He's a matcha you can recommend to friends. Simple and straightforward to appreciate.
In oat and soy I found Sage to be gentle, not overpowering. But my favourite way is an iced cold brew. It's like a strong green tea, and being a 2nd harvest blend it's exactly what you'd want.
Again, he doesn't try to be extravagant. The flavours are clean and transparent, with a bitter taste exactly like green tea freshly brewed, then left in the shade by the farmers to cool off — extracting more flavours. Add a dash of sugar, honey or maple and it might be your next daily matcha.
Overall a high quality, well priced no-nonsense matcha. The Sage is always ready for beginners to have fun with matcha lattes.
