What a blend. Hats off the the farmers. Smooth and clean taste. Hard to find this flavour in cafes. She's the daily latte goddess, our Gourmet's Gold.
How it tastes:
Undeniable taste of Japan. She's the everyday matcha you've been looking for. The goddess is authentically Kyoto — that part of matcha kingdom where famous tea houses are now.
In thin matcha tea, Gourmet's gold is pleasant to sip on. Not harsh nor overwhelming. Clean and refreshing. For lattes, her qualities are smooth and mellow.
Overall a light-bodied matcha of subtle vegetal flavours. With a light and gracious bitterness. Not so bitter you will scowl or spit it out, she is approachable yet inviting. Fresh and crisp. Delicious like hot tea left out to cool. Very pleasant to drink, the aftertaste is of a young plum that comes and goes instantly.
The goddess for good reasons. Her texture is silky soft. Brew her in thin tea (Usucha) with a pinch of sugar and you'll agree with me that no other matcha in this price range comes close.
Best ways to enjoy:
But wait. Is this good for my friends or family to try? From what I can tell, absolutely. The colour itself is vivid and vibrant green enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with our ceremonial grade matchas. And plus, the foam is undeniably frothy rich.
Poured over vanilla ice-cream as a heavier paste (koicha)— the taste is divine. Aesthetic respectable.
Lawyers, artists, nail techs and anyone who spends tremendous effort focusing will find this blend quick to make, easy to drink and fun to experiment with. Whether you bake, cook or make healthy shakes — Gourmet's Gold is ideal.
For lattes, she turned out best when made in smaller matcha base (less water). This condenses her flavours. A goddess cannot be tamed, so when you add milk, her flavours complement and engulfs the senses.
When mixed with a strong soy or oat milk — I've found her to be a soothing and delightful drink. Hard to put down. Whisked nicely, she froths and blends smoothly. For the overachievers, she's been my loyal friend for long periods of undistracted focus. Whether deep work or creative pursuits, a tall glass of iced matcha latte with her will get things done.
What's more. The lightness of Gourmet's gold is without a doubt a beginner friendly matcha. Premium value & quality. An amazing matcha for lattes or examining your taste buds.
Origin: 100% Japanese Green Tea — Yabukita & Okumidori Blend
The blend is authentically Kyoto. Infact it's from the same region as the matcha I first fell in love with — Uji. Uji is the place to be for cultivating green tea. Many of Japan's famous old tea houses have their roots here.
Cooking matcha by name only and for ease of understanding, the goddess is a premium blend of the Nichiban (2nd harvest matcha) without the usual suspects like astringency (dry-sourn) and fishiness.
