100% Japanese Ceremonial Matcha
Strong Enough for Any Milk
Keeps You Locked In
One of the strongest ceremonial matcha in our range. Versatile and delicious. Samidori single origin. First harvest, stone-milled direct from Uji.
Bold. Rich. Doesn't Disappear in Milk.
Velvety smooth notes throughout. Strong vegetal green tea taste with a rich savoury (umami) depth that coats your mouth and lingers.
No bitterness. No grassy harshness. No fishy aftertaste. Only a full, clean, strong matcha flavour with a sweet finish.
Where lighter matcha gets lost when you add milk, Scholar's Secret stays grounded. Complimenting the flavours that comes through oat, almond and full-cream milks. That makes it one of the best ceremonial matchas for lattes, because you're tasting the matcha, not just a green tea flavoured milk.
On its own with hot water, it's full-bodied and satisfying. There's enough going on that you don't need sugar or sweetener — the natural sweetness and umami carry it.
The texture is smooth and silky. No grittiness. Froths well with a bamboo whisk or electric frother.
Tasting notes: Bold green tea. Rich savoury (umami). Lingering sweetness. Clean finish. Zero bitterness.
Body: Full — with a commanding aura. Strong but not overwhelming.
Bitterness: None. The strength comes from flavour depth, not harshness.
You'll love this if you:
Want the most flavourful matcha you can get without jumping to Pinnacle Perfection
Make lattes with rich milks (oat, full-cream) and are tired of the matcha flavour getting washed out
Drink matcha straight and want something with real depth — not subtle, not light, but genuinely strong
Need something that works across every format — lattes, straight tea, thick paste, cold brew — without compromise
This might not be for you if:
You're new to matcha and not sure if you like the taste yet → Start with The Masterpiece or order a Sample Pack
You prefer mellow & gentle flavours with low intensity → Try Emerald Emperor
You want the cheapest daily latte option → Try Gourmet's Gold
You want the absolute best matcha in the range regardless of price → Try Pinnacle Perfection
FOR LATTES — the best ceremonial matcha for this (2 minutes)
Scholar's Secret is the ceremonial matcha we recommend most for decadent lattes. The flavour is strong enough to stand up to any milk.
Step 1 — Sift. Add 3.5g into your cup.
Step 2 — Whisk. Pour 40–60ml of hot water (around 80°C — not boiling). Whisk until smooth.
Step 3 — Add milk and froth. Use whatever milk you like. Oat, almond, soy, full-cream — the matcha flavour comes through all of them. That's the advantage of a bold matcha at this grade.
Optional: Sweetener if you like, but most people find it doesn't need it.
Total time: 2 minutes.
FOR STRAIGHT TEA (1 minute)
Step 1 — Sift 1.5g into a bowl or cup.
Step 2 — Pour 70–80ml of hot water (80°C).
Step 3 — Whisk briskly for 15–20 seconds.
Full-bodied and rich. The umami flavour is strongest when you drink it this way. If you've been working up through lighter matchas and want to know what full intensity tastes like, this is it.
FOR THICK PASTE (Koicha)
Use 3–4g of matcha with just 30ml of hot water. Stir slowly (don't whisk) until you get a thick, paint-like consistency.
This is the most concentrated way to experience Scholar's Secret. The flavour is intense — bold savoury with a clean sweet finish. Works well drizzled over ice cream or eaten with a side of Mochi.
Single Origin. Uji, Kyoto. First Harvest.
Scholar's Secret is made from a single tea plant variety called Samidori — one of the most respected Japanese green tea varieties for ceremonial matcha. Samidori is known for producing matcha with strong umami, natural sweetness, and a smooth, creamy texture.
Harvested in May during the first spring pick. Shade-grown for 3+ weeks before harvest, which concentrates the savoury flavour and gives the powder its vivid green colour.
Grown and stone-milled in Uji, Kyoto — the region where Japanese tea culture started. Single origin means every leaf in the tin comes from the same source.
We import directly from the farm. No blending with cheaper sources.
Harvest: First harvest, May. Shade-grown 3+ weeks.
Freshness: Imported monthly. Packed in our Melbourne warehouse.
Ingredient list: 100% Japanese Green Tea Powder (Camellia sinensis). Nothing else.

Where Scholar's Secret Sits In the Range
Four ceremonial matchas, different strengths. Here's how they compare.
The Masterpiece ($43/30g) — First harvest, crisp and clean with a light bitterness. The best all-rounder. Good for lattes and straight tea. Lighter flavour profile.
Emerald Emperor ($49/30g) — Single-origin Gokou, light bitter-astringent (dry-sourness), great umami but mellower overall. Best for straight tea and cold brew. Gentle in lattes.
Scholar's Secret ($55/30g) — Single-origin Samidori, strong umami, full-bodied, zero bitterness. The boldest flavour in the range. Works in everything — lattes, straight tea, thick paste. The matcha flavour doesn't get lost in milks.
Pinnacle Perfection ($84/30g) — The top of the range. Creamiest, sweetest, most complex. Naturally sweet with zero bitterness. For people who want the best.
If you want bold flavour that works everywhere, Scholar's Secret is the one.
If you want something lighter and more affordable, go with The Masterpiece.

Frequently Asked Questions
All our matcha is 100% green tea. Shade grown 2 weeks+ before harvest to maximise antioxidants. Shading the tea leaf is like tough love – the extra antioxidants produced in this period makes our matcha taste really good!
Then we book her in for a "premium" spa-day where she's treated to some steaming, drying and powdering.
This softens & rounds her attitude out, where her gentle-sweetness, pleasant-bitter and crispiness starts shining.
Always keep your matcha in the fridge. Don't leave her out in the sun like a beach ball. She'll get quite cross with you. Heat of any kind drains her life.
No fridge? No worries. Store her away from direct sunlight.
Upon opening: Scribble the date of opening & put her back in the fridge after use. Unlike Elsa, do not Freeze & Thaw.
For UNOPENED matcha: it's safe to store her in Freezer for 12+ months. When you're ready, thaw her in the Fridge for 1-2 days before open.
"F#* it I'll do it myself!" - I hear you!
Here's a mini guide to put those cafes to shame:
1. Start with small ratios. Smaller ratios allow her (flavours) to POP while respectively telling the milk to stop getting in her face about how much she needs him.
Try this: 1g matcha / 10ml water / 15ml milk / 1g sugar (if you like it sweet)
2. NEVER POUR OVER.Unless you're snapping a few pics for Insta and friends, she tastes best when you:
Whisk, froth & mix the matcha with milk together
Step 1: Make matcha brew Step 2: Add milk (and sweeteners/syrups) Step 3: Whisk/froth again
Light-medium-full body: This is the mouthfeel of matcha tea when sipped alone.
Caution:Full-body matcha paired with cheap-weak milk makes faint or watery lattes. But a quality milk mixed with average matcha can turn 6s to 8s.
Use exceptional ingredients to get phenomenal results.
Full-body tells your senses she's got a huge ego. Her notes are typically strong, and may linger around.
Light-body is demure and subtle. It's like a vivid dream except you can't remember the details but the essence of that dream.
Sweet: Sweet only like broccoli or baby bok-choi. Matcha is not saccharine. It is a vegetal sweetness. Often subtle and faint.
Bitter: The sharp, pungent flavour like crushed Panadol or antibiotics. It's a harshness in matcha that quickly overwhelms when not used to. Bitterness combines well with milk to make lattes refreshing.
For bitter matchas, the best way to make lattes is using a cold-whisking method. Where you mix matcha and milk directly together. No water needed.
Astringent: A dryness, mouth-puckering taste. It's almost sour as if you had lemon. Highly astringent matchas can be considered "grassy" by some. But astringency goes well in lattes, making your drinks crispy.
Umami: Savouriness like un-flavoured popcorn. Umami is an amplifier of the above flavours. In a cultural sense, it's the entire experience of matcha; from the mouth-feel combined with sweet, bitter or astringent notes. Umami is used interchangeably to describe the "experience" as well as the "savoury" component of matcha.
Caution: Explaining umami is like telling the blind colour red. People will not understand you if they have not experienced it.
Matcha is seasonal! Every year, farmers plant green-tea and work year round to make sure it's well taken care off for harvest. It is grown out in the open fields where they can't control the sun, rain and wild, unpredictable weather.
In the same line of work like blueberries, oranges and apples. The farmers do 110% to ensure it's healthy and consumable. But not every batch is sweet or tender.
Step 1: Calculate your daily caffeine intake
(Example: 5 double-shot espressos = 640mg)
Step 2: Start with matcha at 50% of current caffeine intake
(640mg × 0.5 = 320mg = 6 servings of matcha daily at 50mg each)
Note: 1 serve matcha = 1.5g (50mg caffeine)
Step 3: Taper down over 3 months
Month 1: 6 servings (300mg)
Month 2: 4 servings (200mg)
Month 3: 3 servings (150mg)
Step 4: Build your routine & timing
First matcha: 90-120 min after waking
Last matcha: Before 3 PM (earlier the better)
Take one caffeine-free day weekly
Expect: Week 1-2 withdrawal (headaches, fatigue).
Week 3+ better sleep, stable energy and steady focus.
For most healthy adults: Yes, matcha is safe when consumed in moderation (1-3 servings daily).
Please seek professional medical advice if you have health concerns.
For watery, bitter, bland or clumpy matcha: Troubleshoot with a different milk using a smaller ratio. Or follow our cold-paste method and adjust from there!
Cold-Paste Method:
1) Sift 3-4g matcha into bowl/cup
2) Add a dash of cold water (about 10ml)
3) Whisk & mix until thick and pasty
4) Add 3-6g sugar/agave to balance bitterness and astringency
5) Add 40-60ml milk to the paste
6) Whisk & froth until frothy!
For no-nonsense lattes: Sage has a bitterness and astringency that make him refreshing
For traditional Usucha (thin-tea) and bestflavours in latte: the chasen (bamboo whisk) is indispensable. Yes. It takes some time to get used to. When you know the ins-outs of the whisk, your matcha game improves 100x.
Electric frothers make dang good drinks too, if you are patient and precise.
For speed and convenience the electric frother is the choice for making matcha lattes on the go.
If you love slowing down, taking it all in while smelling the flowers; you'll love the bamboo whisk.
All you need is a jar, matcha, water, milk and maybe sugar with a protein shaker ball. Ice is optional, but highly recommended.
Put the A-team together and shake as hard as your body can handle.
This is easier than it looks!

Best matcha ever! So delicious and have been loving making both iced and hot matcha lattes. The team at Green Caffeine have also been great to deal with. Very fast communication and were very helpful with any questions I had. Thanks team! Will be purchasing again 💚

Green caffeine is my fav matcha brand !! I've been buying from them since 2023, their matcha is one of the best, I've tried so many other brands but I keep going back to them no matter what. I love all their products and I really do feel that Vicky and Leo care so much!! and that's what makes me go back too because you don't see a lot of owners having this passion as them. They were also kind enough to give me Gourmet's gold matcha as a sample to try ( amazing for lattes ). I wish I bought more with my last order too, I'll definitely order again. Also, the delivery was so fast.

The BEST!! Tastes so so good. Not bitter or bland. Creamy and deep in flavour. Favourite matcha!

I’ve tried the Gourmets Gold and loved it but the Scholars Secret is even better! It’s everything I want in a matcha latte and tastes just like the ones you’d get at the shops! I can’t wait to try the other ones!
Leeann W.5/5Verified
I found Green Caffeine on Tiktok and couldn’t wait to try their matcha! I love a transparent brand and supporting smaller businesses. I’ve already learned so much from their page and the taste of their matcha is immaculate!!
Ronja B.5/5Verified
Such a deep green… and tastes very comparable to the I matcha latte I get from Japanese cafes! I don’t think I’m getting matcha from a cafe anytime soon unless I’m desperate. Also, as much as I am also a coffee-lover, drinking this matcha has lessened my coffee intake to one cup a day! Quality matcha (and coffee) make a lot of difference to my day… and the amount I spend on drinking these drinks outside!
Kamae I.5/5Verified
I tried itbonce with milk and once withh coconut water. Both were wonderful. But i liked it better with coconut water cuz it is refreshing and lighter.
Ghadeer A.5/5Verified
Best matcha I’ve ever had and I’ve tried ALOT! Love this matcha so much! The colour is gorgeous and it tastes amazing. I’ve bought 2 sachets and now have found my favourite so I will continue to buy in the future.

This Matcha was amazing! The colour is such a bright green. The flavour is wonderful, I added oat milk to mine. It was delicious!
Sarah W.5/5Verified
This is my favorite matcha. I actually prefer it now to my espresso drinks. I tried a different type of matcha from another company that I could find locally, but that quality just did not match up, so I will continue ordering from green caffeine.
Serena L.5/5Verified
This is my absolute favourite matcha and I’ve tried quite a lot. You just can’t beat the taste and rich green colour!
Aphrah A.5/5Verified

Tippawan M.5/5Verified
Honestly I was super impressed with this one! The flavour on this in unreal and the matcha is not bitter. Very creamy and was so delicious on its own. I’ll definitely recommend this, it’s really high quality! Leo knows what he’s doing with this one and offers a range of different matcha powders with different flavour nodes! I’m so excited to use it to make my aesthetic matcha tik toks haha!!
I’d also like to make a comment on their amazing customer service experience. I have no complaints whatsoever. The matcha is packaged really well. My package also came with a personalised letter and stickers. I take my hat off to Leo and Vicky, this brand really cares about their customers. I recommend this to friends and family! And you! :)

My favourite matcha from green caffeine. It has stronger umami notes compared to early riser/artisan, which was an acquired taste for me, but one that I quickly got addicted to. Since its general taste is stronger than the other two offered on here, I find that it doesn’t get overpowered by the coffee. It tastes especially good as a dirty matcha, but still good on its own, too.
Laura T.5/5Verified
It's so gooooood! Tastes divine 🤤
Will be buying some for upcoming father's day, my dad loves matcha, he's a loyal fan.
I received a cute sticker too, looks like it belong on my phone case, thank you!

Absolutely love this Matcha – this is already my second order! I’ve tried several brands, and this one is by far my favourite. The quality is outstanding, and I truly appreciate the thoughtful free gifts. I use the glass jar and bamboo scoop daily, and the stickers were such a fun bonus. I’ll definitely be purchasing again. Thank you!
Anna P.5/5Verified
I can tell why this one was a little bit pricer, you can TASTE the quality, so I will be savouring every cup like its my last. It has such nutty notes and quite a natural sweetness. I really like my matcha without any sweetener and this was the perfect balance, ideal for a nice hot latte during these cold days :D
Chloe P.5/5Verified
Great tasting matcha for an every day morning beverage. Pretty nice colour and love the free stickers hehe :)

Best quality matcha
The kit come with three blends. All three are nice to drink. To me the best one is the early riser it’s smooth. All three blends are not bitter which is a plus. The electric whisk is good quality and quite powerful. I would buy another one if they were sold individually. I’m happy with the service as it was very quick shipping from NSW to VIC. I will be purchasing again soon for gifts.
